Dragaon Boat Festival, also commonly known as "Duan Wu Jie" in Chinese, falls on the 5th Day of the 5th lunar month.  The dates varies in the Gregorian calendar, and in this year 2010 it falls on the 16th June.

It is one of the 3 most important festivals in the Chinese calendar.  The other 2 are Chinese New Year and Mooncake (also known as Mid-Autumn) Festival.

Chinese celebrate this festival to commemorate the life of a great Chinese patriot poet Qu Yuan (475BC), who was framed by corrupted officials of the imperial kingdom, and thus committed suicide.
